Report identity theft as soon as you know you are a victim.
The sooner you report it, the easier it will be to stop it and
clean up the mess caused by the person(s) who stole your identity.
You should contact the following:
- The three credit reporting bureaus. You now only need to contact
of them, and the other two will be notified for you:
- Equifax 1.(800) 525-6285
- Experian 1 (888).397-3742
- TransUnion 1 (800) 680-7289
- Federal Trade Commission: 1-877-IDTHEFT (438-4338)
or you can report
identity theft online.
- Report your identity theft to your local police or the
police in the community where the identity theft took place.
- Social Security Administration: 1-800-772-1213
- If the misuse involves buying or selling SS cards or
terrorist groups or activities, contact the Office of the Inspector
General at the SSA at 1-800-269-0271.
- If your information has been compromised, but not yet misused,
